Student Leadership

Through our FLAME values our students develop attributes that build up a diverse skill set enabling them to motivate and influence others. They develop these skills in all aspects of school life, improving their decision making, communication and problem-solving skills.  Whilst we encourage opportunities for students to become leaders, we also have many activities that allow students to grow in confidence and build their leadership qualities e.g. building skills in extracurricular events such as the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.   Student opportunities to lead teams and activities are also widely encouraged, and these are increasing each year.

House Council

In addition to the Sixth Form senior team, we have an active House Council. This is comprised of Year 11 House Captains and tutor group representatives’ years 7 to 10. The house council are responsible for the success of many of themed weeks in school where we encourage active participation in events around school.

School Ambassadors

Over the past few years, we have recruited school ambassadors – these are students who represent their leadership skills through specific roles. This includes parents’ events, Year 6-7 Transition Ambassadors and Buddy Leads.  These ambassadors are crucial to the running of high-profile events.

Department Ambassadors

A recent addition to student leadership is subject ambassadors who are recruited at each key stage. These students are role models within subject areas and support the department at open events and actively mentor younger students.

Sports Leaders

The PE department Sports Leader's Course in Years 10 and Sixth Form works closely with the South Tyneside School Games organisers who give our students opportunities to support them in a variety of competitions and festivals at both a primary and secondary school level. We also celebrate great sporting success in all sports areas with motivational team leaders which we have in abundance.  Our sports day events in the summer also allows our sports house captains lights to shine.

Influencer Groups

The Year 10 female influencer group have successfully worked with years 7 and 8 designing and delivering workshops. The Year 12 male influencer group have worked with Year7 boys on male character and what makes good leaders. They have worked with Year 10 boys on stereotypes and knife crime.

South Tyneside Youth Council Leaders

We have three students who are part of the South Tyneside Youth Council co-ordinating events across South Tyneside schools.
