School Community

St. Joseph’s Academy is founded in its mission to support each member of our community to live life to the full which also underpins the Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust vision “As a family of Catholic schools inspired by Christ, we aim to enable each individual to fulfil their God given potential. Excellence for everyone through learning, respect and partnership is at the heart of our Trust.”. We are proud of our safe and happy community where pupils live out our mission statement to feel empowered to let their light shone through our FLAME values. Our vision is for students to leave St. Joseph’s as resilient, confident and well-rounded individuals, with the knowledge to make informed future choices.

We believe that education is about teaching children the knowledge, skills and values that they will require to be effective life-long learners. We value be everyone in our school community and the unique gifts they have to offer. Inclusivity and diversity are celebrated ensuring we meet the needs of all individuals We strive for our students to not only develop their talents in each of the individual subjects they study, but also to help their personal skills and character qualities flourish in formation in order that our students may grow into positive, resilient, empathetic and responsible young adults contributing towards the common good.

Building our School Community

We are an active school community and our holistic approach to the personal development of students ensures our students thrive in a positive and encouraging environment where community is at the forefront of everything we do.

Our weekly student bulletin is packed with things to do and ideas of how to get involved. Daily spirituality prayers and reflections encourage students to grow in faith as a community and be respectful of each other. Our extracurricular programme offers around 40 different clubs and activities with something for everyone. Our House and Year Group assemblies follow a bespoke calendar of themes to build both our House and Year group identities. We celebrate our House Saints Days and of course St Joseph’s Day in March when we hold community events to ensure we come together to celebration.

In addition, our themed weeks and months alongside our social action projects throughout the year bring a unique community focus and enables important issues and events to be at the forefront of discussions with an emphasis on our FLAME values encouraging all individuals to be part of a community at a school level and beyond.

Our community involvement extends to our feeder primary schools with transition events: into the local area with many sports events, youth council events and with our Trust, with events such as the spelling bee competitions and Choral Crusade. We also have strong relationships with local universities and employers and pastoral support agencies.
