Academic Support

St. Joseph’s is a welcoming and accessible community, with compassionate learning and pastoral support to ensure we meet the individual needs of every pupil. We recognise that every pupil has differing needs, abilities and preferences, and that these will change over time and in different circumstances. That’s why every member of staff is focused on creating a caring environment that fulfils the needs of everyone.
The St, Joseph’s school community is welcoming and accessible to all pupils. We provide effective and compassionate support for pupils with identified special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), as well as those who may be experiencing temporary difficulties – whether physical or emotional.
Our Learning Support department has specific expertise in helping pupils with a whole range of special educational needs, in the context of a mainstream school. These specialists work closely with both academic and pastoral staff to ensure we monitor and manage the progress of all pupils in our care, whatever their individual requirements and including any pupil with an EHC plan.

GCSE students in Years 10 and 11 are monitored closely against progress expectations. Our STEP programme is designed to support students in achieving their personal best. STEP begins at the end of Year 10 and runs through to the end of Year 11 and caters for all students from those who have fallen behind progress expectations as well as support and push those students who are exceeding expectations or working towards the top grades. STEP runs in all subject areas, is compulsory if invited and open to all.
