Health and Social Care

In recent years, around 1.8 million people were employed in the adult social care sector and there are more than 1.2 million full-time equivalent staff working in NHS trusts in England. This is expected to grow due to an ageing population and increasing demand. This course aims to provide a dynamic and inclusive learning experience, hoping to raise student aspirations through partnerships with local universities and developing a range of transferable skills to support learners to be work-ready.
South Tyneside faces significant health inequalities, with disadvantaged communities disproportionately affected by challenges like poor health, childhood obesity, and educational loss. The program aspires to inspire students to become "Ambassadors for Change," equipping them to address these disparities through academic and vocational learning. A wide range of enrichment activities, personalised to student interests, are part of our offer to enhance student engagement and understanding, showing the vast range of roles within the H&SC and early years sector.
Students will study human growth and development, life events, and their impacts, while exploring local and national H&SC services. They will analyse case studies, apply care values, and create care plans to improve well-being. Level 3 students will explore life stages, care worker roles, ethical principles, and legislation, applying knowledge to real-life scenarios and building research skills. They will apply academic knowledge to practical and vocational contexts.
