Attendance

At St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy, we believe that regular school attendance is essential to every student’s success and personal development. Maintaining positive attendance not only supports academic achievement but plays a vital role in the social and mental well-being of young people. As a Catholic community, we also value the spiritual development that comes from shared experiences and reflection which can only be achieved by being present each day.
Evidence shows that a pupil’s progress is significantly affected if their attendance falls below 90% with their GCSE attainment likely to drop by an entire grade. At St Joseph’s we set an ambitious attendance target of 97% for all pupils. This equates to attending 184 days out of the 190 days across the academic year. Reporting an Absence
We understand that from time-to-time pupils feel unwell and may to be unable to attend school. Please refer to the NHS website regarding illness and school attendance: Is my child too ill for school? - NHS.
If for any reason your son/daughter is going to absent from school, please notify us via the Arbor app. We kindly ask parents/guardians to make any appointments outside of school hours. Where this is not possible, please ensure pupils attend for the remainder of the school day.
If you are concerned about your child's attendance or would like any support, please contact our attendance team at the following email: TJCAttendance@stjosephs.uk.net.
