Mr. Mather, Head of Law and Politics, and the Year 13 Law students were delighted to welcome back to St Joseph’s, Claire Pearce, Legal Apprenticeship Manager at Clifford Chance, and former student, Meg Herring, who is a paralegal at the firm. Clifford Chance is a magic circle law firm meaning it is one of the top 5 firms in the world. It has offices all over the world, but they also have a Newcastle office, currently in Gosforth but soon to be on the Helix site in the city centre.
Claire presented to the students the opportunity of a paralegal apprenticeship at Clifford Chance to start in September. She explained what the apprenticeship entails, what paralegals do and the benefits of a career at the firm. There are many opportunities for students if they take on this role at Clifford Chance, across a vast array of law. This is also a career path already taken by a number of former students who can attest to the enjoyment and quality of training and skills development that it provides.
One of those is Meg (St Joseph’s 2014-16 and former A Level Law student), who shared her experiences of the apprenticeship and the work she is currently doing. It was great to see Meg continuing to do so well after we saw her last year too – we are always extremely proud to hear of our alumni doing so well in their careers!
Students learned about the wide-ranging work that Clifford Chance carry out, from representing some of the biggest companies in the world, including a large number of banks and finance institutions, to representing celebrities. Paralegals need a wide range of skills to complete their work which has to be done to the highest standard, a standard expected daily at a top firm like Clifford Chance.

Clifford Chance also have a careers page on Instagram, starring Meg, and this can be accessed here: Clifford Chance (@cliffordchancecareers) • Instagram photos and videos.
Mr. Mather and the Law students would like to thank Claire and Meg once again for giving up their time to visit us and we are very much looking forward to continuing to work with Clifford Chance, and especially Claire and her team, again in the future.
