Catholic life and mission vocation talk: Life as a Prison Chaplain

10th December 2024

On Friday 6th December 2024, we were really lucky to have a visit from HMP Durham’s Catholic Prison Chaplain, Felicity.

Students in year 9 in RE have been studying about Catholic attitudes to Crime and Punishment so this talk helped bring much of their learning to life. Felicity explained about her unique role as a Prison Chaplain, explained what life was like in prisons and the role that faith can play behind bars. Felicity brought in some artefacts such as prison balnkets, prisoner outfits and what they are allowed to use for meals. Students asked thought-provoking questions and were reflective upon Felicity’s testimony. We look forward to welcoming Felicity back to St. Joseph’s again in the future. God bless.
